About the Museum

Örebro County Museum is a vibrant meeting place for all ages. Through encounters with art and cultural history, we aim to give visitors new perspectives on themselves and the world around them.

We produce exhibitions at the Mine Owner’s Homestead Siggebohyttan and Gråbo Workers’ Museum as well as traveling exhibitions in the Mobile Museum that tour throughout Örebro County. The museum also offers guided tours, children’s programs, workshops, lectures, and much more. We work throughout the county with expertise in handicrafts, cultural heritage, and archaeology.

The museum has one of the largest collections of artifacts—over 300,000 cultural history objects—as well as an extensive art and photo collection, a library, and an archive that we display both in exhibitions and on Digitalt Museum (link opens in a new window).

Örebro County Museum is one of the oldest regional museums in Sweden with its roots tracing back to the very first antiquities association founded in 1856.

Siggebohyttans bergsmansgård

Siggebohyttan

Halfway between Lindesberg and Nora, you’ll find the magnificent Mine Owner’s Homestead Siggebohyttan. The estate dates back to the heyday of Bergslagen and features a grand wooden manor house at its center.

At Siggebohyttan, you’ll also find a stable, a storehouse, a barn, and a café with a shop selling refreshments, light meals, and selected local products. Guided tours of the manor house are offered several times daily during the summer season. You can also book a private group tour if you’re visiting with a larger party.

There’s a nearby lake for those looking to take a refreshing swim. There’s also a hiking trail leading to the old mine in the forest open to everyone. At Siggebohyttan children can find crafted toys, giant jigsaw puzzles and hobbyhorses among many other fun things to occupy themselves with!

Accessibility at Siggebohyttan

  • Ramp available at the café, shop, and restrooms
  • No ramp to the manor house
  • Limited indoor accessibility due to high thresholds and lack of an elevator
  • No accessible restroom (RWC)
  • No designated accessible parking, but it may be possible to drive up to the café
  • Hiking trail is difficult to access with wheelchairs or strollers
  • Information folders in English are available on site

Gråbo Workers’ Museum

Gråbo is a fantastic place for anyone who wants to experience everyday life as it once was. The wooden floors creak, and the glasses, coffee cups, and children’s toys have been left out—as if the person who lives here has just stepped out for a moment. There are three apartments located on the upper floor of the house. On the ground floor, you’ll find an exhibition space, an old classroom, and the children’s playroom “Mini-Gråbo.”

For the 2024 summer season, we opened the new exhibition FOOD – Always at Hand, which explores food storage and prepping through the ages.

Mini-Gråbo

Inspired by the apartments, we’ve created a play area where children can pretend to live “in the old days.” Here, kids can dress up, cook, and do laundry. The room is filled with charming old-fashioned items—and everything can be used!

Gråbo Garden

Since 2020, the project Edible for Pollinators and People has been ongoing in the garden surrounding the house.
The garden is a place for people who want to grow plants together, a haven for pollinators, and a peaceful spot for visitors to enjoy—and maybe learn something about the importance of pollinators for our food supply.

Would you like to help cultivate the Gråbo garden? No previous experience is needed. E-mail stadsodling@mockelnforeningarna.net to express your interest.
